Four Methods of Copying a Web Page to Word

There are several different ways to copy a web page to word with varying degrees of difficulty and advantages and disadvantages.

  • Content capture.- By using the standard “Save as” method in Google, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, Access by pressing CTRL + S. This will open up the Save As dialog box. Google offers you the option of saving Web page Complete and Web page HTML only. Both IE and Firefox offer a Text file option ,txt.
  • Text only method- Press CTRL+ A to select the entire page. Then CTRL + C to copy the page. You may then paste in Word. You may get a wide variety of different looks
  • Text pasting-Select just the text you want to copy by using your mouse. Right click to copy, or CTRL+C. Paste to Word by using CTRL+V or by right clicking your mouse and selecting paste.
  • PDF- Using Google Chrome you are offered a Print to PDF option. Right click on the page with your mouse or go to the wrench in the upper right- hand corner and select print from the drop -down menu. You will be taken to the print page. In the upper left-hand corner you will be offered the option to safe as PDF. It works very well but you will have to take the additional step of converting the file from PDF into a format Word can handle.

Which Method Works Best When Copying a Web Page to Word?

The best method depends somewhat on what part of the web page you are interested in. Different browsers will sometimes give a different look than another, even copying the same page in the same format. It may be a good idea to try out different methods using different browsers and copying the web page to Word, word pad and notepad to see which method works best for you.
